Arrow McLaren team principal Tony Kanaan has finally addressed the rumors surrounding Christian Lundgaard's place in the team. Several reports have claimed that the Danish driver is set to be replaced in 2027 by six-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon.

The surprising part about this reported move is that Lundgaard has been Arrow McLaren's best-performing driver in 2026. However, one-half of the reported replacement has already been confirmed, with Chip Ganassi Racing confirming Dixon's exit after 2026.

Now, the ball is in McLaren's court. While RACER's Marshall Pruett confirmed before Mid-Ohio that Dixon replacing Lundgaard is a certainty, Tony Kanaan said otherwise after the race on Sunday.

"I think first, there's a lot of talk about what we're doing in the team and a lot of speculation," Kanaan began saying (via ASAP Sports). "I think we haven't reached an agreement yet. I think you guys will see in the near future what the team is doing. We haven't been able to agree on a couple things.

"But I think as a team principal, I'm responsible for running this team as best as I can, and I think Christian has shown his potential, but also, there are other options out there, and I've got to consider all of them. The decision hasn't been made yet."

Without naming Dixon, Kanaan addressed the controversial driver swap chatter, adding:

"Although people keep putting people in my cars, it's not done until it's done. He's (Lundgaard) still very much in play, and he's an extremely capable race car driver. We'll see what's going to happen."

Before the recently concluded Mid-Ohio race weekend, Christian Lundgaard was the only race winner from the team, having won at IMS and Road America. As a result, it was absolutely baffling to the IndyCar world that he was going to be replaced.

Christian Lundgaard letting "results speak for themselves" amid IndyCar uncertainty

Christian Lundgaard came all guns blazing in Mid-Ohio while the speculation about his Arrow McLaren seat swirled. He topped Saturday's practice session and, in qualifying, stunned teammate Pato O'Ward to take pole position.

In the post-qualifying press conference, Lundgaard was presented with Tony Kanaan's statement from earlier this year, when the team boss spoke about being transparent with its drivers regarding contract talks, and asked if he had been shown the same transparency.

"I mean, there's a lot of talks back and forth," Lundgaard replied via ASAP Sports. "At the end of the day, I still have a job to do now. What next year brings, at the end of the day, I still don't know. My guess is as good as yours is from that regard.

"But as long as I keep doing the best that I can and keep winning races, I feel like those results speak for themselves."

Lundgaard's pace was good enough for a potential third IndyCar win of 2026 on Sunday, except for a costly mistake on lap 42 of 90. The No. 7 Chevrolet driver went wide in Turn 2, and O'Ward capitalized on that mistake to get closer and eventually overtake him for the lead a few turns later.

Thereon, O'Ward dictated the race and visited victory lane for the first time in 2026. On the back of his runner-up finish, Lundgaard advanced to third in the standings, while O'Ward remained in fifth.
