Lewis Hamilton issues humble plea for English fans in FIFA World Cup

While Lewis Hamilton’s recent form in Ferrari is still being discussed, the driver is getting attention for comments regarding the England football team in the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

The seven-time World Champion, who supports both England and Brazil in football, spoke to the media sometime after England’s first match against Croatia. While fans could be heard singing the lyrics ‘It’s coming home’ from the song ‘Three Lions’, Hamilton feels the song should be saved for when England wins the tournament.

“I don't have a prediction, I don't follow it that much, that close to be honest. I'm more into MotoGP and NFL, but I mean, I will tune in every now and then, and I will always keep a close eye on what England is doing. I just hope we don't sing 'It's Coming Home' too early because that's what we normally do. Sing it once we've got it, not before. It's a great song, but jeez!”

This season, FIFA has introduced a rule that allows the participating teams to choose songs to be played after goals, on winning matches, and in other key moments. England chose Chase The Sun as their goal song and Three Lions as their victory song.

Similarly, France also chose the Daft Punk's One More Time, Australia went with AC/DC’s Thunderstruck, and Scotland with I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers.

This makes us wonder if F1 should also implement something similar each time a driver wins a race. Everyone knows what they will hear when Max Verstappen wins.

While Lewis Hamilton urges English football fans to cool their jets, the Ferrari Team Principal is also making a similar appeal to F1 fans.

Fred Vasseur: “This is the worst approach that I could have”

With Lewis Hamilton claiming the first non-Mercedes win of the season, there has been a lot of chatter around Ferrari potentially winning a world title, and reports of the team prioritising the 41-year-old driver over Charles Leclerc for the same.

After the Barcelona round, Fred Vasseur was asked about what had changed in terms of approach and strategies. He reiterated that despite the win, the team needs to stay grounded and approach the upcoming races the same as before, and not get carried away in the hopes of a World Title.

“I had probably some comments two weeks ago that everything was a disaster, and now we are speaking about the World Championship. This is the worst approach that I could have. The approach is to go to Austria exactly with the same approach that we had in Barcelona, and not to think about the championship or to project yourself with 25 more wins. I will never do it.”

He then signed off by stating that while the team must celebrate for now, they will continue to chase small improvements and do everything in a step-by-step manner.
