IndyCar Schedule Detroit GP: Timings, Where To Watch, Weather, & More

IndyCar heads to Michigan for Round 8 of the 2026 season, with the Detroit GP this weekend. Set to take place between May 29 and 31, the race has typically been held just after the prestigious Indy 500.

This scheduling has left many in the IndyCar world divided, including drivers and teams, because neither the drivers nor the teams' mechanics get adequate time to rest after the grueling month of May.

However, for now, it is what it is.

The Detroit GP is held on a 1.645-mile-long temporary street circuit consisting of nine turns and runs along some of Detroit’s most popular downtown areas, such as Jefferson Avenue, Bates Street, Atwater Street, St. Antoine, Franklin Street, and Rivard.

Who is the favorite to win the Detroit GP?

Andretti Global's Kyle Kirkwood comes out as one of the favorites to win the Detroit GP. The team has performed well on street circuits, and it blocked the podium last year, with Kirkwood and Colton Herta finishing 1st and 3rd, respectively.

Although Kirkwood's sole victory of the season came at the Arlington Grand Prix, the driver currently sits third in the points table, behind David Malukas and Alex Palou. He is expected to repeat his heroics from last year.

Meyer Shank Racing with Curb Agajanian driver Felix Rosenqvist (60) crosses the Yard of Bricks ahead of Team Penske driver David Malukas (12) on Sunday, May 24, 2026, to win the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Meanwhile, Felix Rosenqvist's name also comes up, given his recent form. Last week, he created history by winning the Indy 500 in the closest ever finish in the sport, crossing the line 0.0233 of a second over Team Penske driver David Malukas.

Alex Palou, Christian L, and David Malukas are also among the top contenders. Which driver will you be rooting for?
