Indy 500 champ Felix Rosenqvist reportedly offered new IndyCar contract to join rival in 2027

A heavy domino might be about to fall in the IndyCar driver market for 2027. Meyer Shank Racing's Felix Rosenqvist, who won the 2026 Indy 500 in May, is surprisingly rumored to have received a contract offer from a rival team.

Per IndyCar reporter Tony Donohue, Andretti Global has offered the Swedish driver a contract for next season. In an X post from the ongoing race weekend at Road America, Donohue wrote:

"The rumors in the paddock that continue to be brought to my attention is that 2026 #Indy500 winner Felix Rosenqvist has been offered a contract with Andretti Global."

Andretti Global already has two drivers under contract for 2027: Will Power and Kyle Kirkwood, both of whom began their new multi-year contracts this year. Marcus Ericsson is the one whose three-year contract ends after the 2026 season.

It is he whom Felix Rosenqvist would replace if the above report came true.

RACER's Marshall Pruett reported a similar possibility on Friday, with Rosenqvist linked to Andretti Global and his former team Arrow McLaren. The latter team will also have a vacant seat, with Nolan Siegel in the last year of his contract.

Over the last two years, Siegel has failed to prove himself in the cars that teammates Pato O'Ward and Christian Lundgaard have secured podiums and wins in. Pruett confirmed that Arrow McLaren won't retain the 21-year-old in the No. 6 entry.

Andretti is risking more instability in IndyCar with potential Ericsson-Rosenqvist swap

Andretti Global is one of the most affluent teams on the IndyCar grid. In 2025, that money was put to great use, as Kyle Kirkwood emerged as a championship contender, Colton Herta was pushed toward his F1 dream, and the team signed two-time champ Will Power to replace Herta, who was IndyCar's highest-paid driver.

Marcus Ericsson seemed like the only weak point on the driver's front, with only one top-five finish in 2026. However, the 2022 Indy 500 winner has had a resurgence this season.

After leading 114 laps at WWT Raceway on June 7 and finishing on the podium, his first in over two years, Ericsson exuded confidence.

"I feel like I have been driving at my best for sure in my Andretti time this year," the Swede said post-race. "It's starting to pay off, as well."

But is it too little, too late for the former F1 driver? Felix Rosenqvist has risen to the top of the IndyCar world with his Indy 500 win, which he won by the closest margin in the race's 110-year history.

The Meyer Shank Racing driver's services will be in high demand. However, Marcus Ericsson isn't entirely out of options. Per Pruett, four teams have mentioned his name as a possible choice for 2027.
