First Visuals of Ford's $30,000 EV Pickup Surfaces as US Giant Vows to Rival Chinese Trucks

Ford has been testing a compact electric pickup truck for nearly a week. Now it has made a dedicated website for the truck, which states that the truck is arriving in 2027, along with a small message that congratulates you on "spotting a unicorn." We believe that might be a hint towards its name.

Based on video footage from the website, the truck appears to be quite compact, even smaller than the Maverick, perhaps. Per Automotive News, Ford CEO Jim Farley said that this is the company's response to low-cost Chinese EVs.

These disguised test mules reportedly carry a QR scanner that leads you towards the aforementioned website. Technical specifications and details are obviously being kept under wraps for now.

The Ford EV pickup will reportedly be built on the Universal Electric Vehicle platform that was announced sometime in 2025. The UEV platform is highly modular and will spawn multiple products that include small cars, compact SUVs, and a three-row SUV, to name a few.

The compact electric pickup will also feature an LFP battery pack, with no insights regarding its size or charging speeds available yet. In terms of design, the pickup truck features a rather raked hood, which was also hinted at in the design sketches shown in the teaser. The presence of aero-optimized alloys further gives away the fact that it is an EV.

Ford is targeting a starting price of $30000, and we expect more details to be revealed in the coming months.

Interestingly, in Ford’s description of the UEV platform, a sedan body style was one that was notably missing. The car maker has different plans for that segment, one that might excite enthusiasts and family buyers alike.

Ford Looking to Expand its Mustang Family

Andrew Frick, the President of Ford’s Blue and Model e divisions, recently spoke to Automotive News. He revealed that Ford is open to returning to sedans, but in a manner that makes sense and is profitable.

He added that he would like to expand the Mustang lineup, which further fuels speculations of a four-door Mustang.

“We have a really great Mustang that people consider a car," said Frick. "We look to expand on the Mustang family as we move forward."

Elaborating on Ford introducing a Sedan model again, he added:

"I think, for us to do it, it’s going to have to make sense within our portfolio. It’s going to have to make sense within a family that we may already offer. And it’s going to have to be very cost-effective for us to do it."

According to many reports that surfaced sometime around 2024, Ford has shown dealers two four-door models of the Mustang; one of which was a four-door midsize sedan, while the other was said to be a performance-focused off-roader, similar to the Porsche 911 Dakar and the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato.
