FIA Pushes Extreme H Saudi World Cup to 2027 Amid Regional Tensions

Extreme H organisers, along with the FIA and the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (SAMF), have confirmed that the event will be postponed to 2027.

Citing logistical and operational challenges, Extreme H organisers, the FIA, and SAMF said preparations for this year’s edition could not continue as initially intended and that the event would instead take place in 2027.

Some publications have suggested that wider issues in the region, which are geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, have meant that it’s not currently possible to stage such an international event safely.

The second edition of the hydrogen-powered series’ flagship event, the FIA Extreme H World Cup, was scheduled for October 29 to 31 in Qiddiya City, Saudi Arabia.

While the event won’t take place this year, the FIA and Extreme H stressed their continued commitment to their Saudi partners, and stated that they would continue to work closely with all partners and stakeholders with a view to staging a successful event in 2027.

The FIA Extreme H World Cup is a hydrogen fuel cell powered off-road motorsport series which promotes zero-emission motorsport in extreme environments around the globe. No date has been confirmed for the postponed World Cup, but the teams and engineers will at least have more time to prepare their hydrogen-powered machines ahead of a return to the dunes of Qiddiya City.
