Ferrari eyeing redemption after Luce? Italian pioneer teases new launch weeks after embarrassment

It appears Ferrari has plans to celebrate the 4th of July with a bang. During a conference in Las Vegas organized by Tekion Corp, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna urged dealers to stick with the brand, hinting at a new reveal.

“In a few weeks (via Autocar UK), if you can bear with us a little bit, then you will see something new where we put together something from the past with eyes on the future. Let’s say wait till the fourth of July. It’s really soon,” stated Vigna.

He further mentioned that this new product is going to take inspiration from the brand’s rich heritage, while also integrating modern technology into it.

“We have two eyes. With one eye we look at the past, one eye we look at the future – and one brain because we have to put it together,” Vigna added.

This has led to hopes that the new vehicle would be a modern rendition of one of Ferrari's historic models. But what's interesting is the timing of these comments.

The Maranello-based car maker has recently been subjected to widespread criticism for the polarizing design of its first electric car, Luce. After this, speculation around Ferrari bringing back the manual transmission started picking up.

The car maker has not produced a manual-transmission car since 2012. However, reports claim that Ferrari recently filed a patent for a shift-by-wire transmission with a gated, H-pattern gearshift, referencing its older cars with a conventional stick shift.

The tech, however, appears similar to the Koenigsegg Easy Shift System found on the CC80. What’s unclear is whether Ferrari’s tech will feature a clutch pedal or not.

Will the new Ferrari be a manual 12Cilindri?

Given how turbulent the last few weeks have been for the brand, we would not be surprised if the answer was yes. According to a report from The Supercar Blog, that is exactly what the car maker is planning, with the new product likely to be called the 12Cilindri MM.

Following the Luce’s global reveal, many reports claimed Ferrari’s shares fell by nearly 8% in Milan. Ferrari would need something that turns things back in its favour, and a manual version of its pure V12 screamer seems to be the way to go.

The supposed car will feature Ferrari’s shift-by-wire manual transmission that has been explained above.

If these reports turn out to be true, do not expect this car to be readily available either. Ferrari will likely sell it to those who already have a prancing horse in their garage.

But, you never know, Ferrari's new reveal could be the unthinkable: a modern-day F40?
