85-YO arrested in Ohio over alleged street racing stunt, says he was “having a ride in (his) favorite car”

According to a report from CBS 12 News, an 85-year-old man in Florida was arrested for engaging in a street race. The incident reportedly took place at around 11:30 PM on June 12 when the Lake County Sheriff's Office deputy was traveling to U.S. 27 near County Road 33 in Leesburg.

Based on the report, the man’s name is William Bosworth. The report further states that two cars appeared to be engaging in a street race. One of them was Bosworth’s silver Nissan 350Z; the other was a red Chevrolet Corvette driven by a 57-year-old man named Phillip Signorino.

The two cars were being driven in a 45-mph zone. While the Nissan was said to be going at 110mph, the Corvette is said to have clocked 125mph.

Based on the body-cam footage released on YouTube, the 85-year-old driver Bosworth denied allegations of street racing. The report by CBS 12 News stated that Bosworth said, "I was out having a ride in my favorite car," when asked as to why he was speeding.

Meanwhile, in another report by Race & Track, the Corvette driver, Phillip Signorino, told the police that he could not have been going at a speed of 125mph, as he claims that his Corvette is incapable of reaching such speeds.

Regardless, both drivers were arrested for street racing and dangerous, excessive speeding, and there is no update yet regarding their current status.

However, Florida isn’t exactly immune to such cases.

Florida trooper: “He thought I was racing him”

Speeding in Florida has now gone from being a ticket incident to a criminal offense, thanks to a law passed in the state in July 2025. Based on a report from Road & Track, this law allows the police to take action against ‘super-speeding’ drivers.

One such incident was recorded not long afterwards, when a ‘super-speeder’ was stopped on Interstate 4 in Seminole County. According to the report, a blue Honda Civic was caught going at a speed of 120 mph in a 65 mph zone on July 23.

The report also quoted Florida Highway Patrol trooper D. Paez Hernandez's claim: “The driver stated that he thought I was racing him.”

While the driver is said to have admitted going over 90mph, the officer’s evidence suggested that he was actually going 30mph over the speed limit. Similar cases like this were also reported regarding SUV and motorists being caught for speeding beyond limits.
